The Age of Accountability
The Age of Accountability

What's AGE got to do with it?
Raise your hand if you love the '80"s like I do? Queen, Billy Joel, Bowie, + Tina!!
In her 1984 hit, "What's Love Got to Do with It," Tina Turner sang "It's physical. Only logical." and argued that love is only a second hand emotion. Love was optional.
Fast forward to 2021 and I might argue that while growing older is inevitable, AGING is optional...and accountability is the key to being your fittest and healthiest self ever!
If you're like me, though, it may have taken you a while to figure that out.
Big girl accountability
I began my career...(slightly simpler version of what you have)
My accountability coaches were my boss and my bank.

Tina Turner belts out her 1984 hit song “What’s Love Got to Do with It” + it takes me back...way back!
In her lyrics, Tina sings… “It’s physical. Only logical. You must try to ignore that it means more than that, oh oh oh…what’s love got to do with it. What’s love but a secondhand emotion”.
Tina, sings, that love is a secondhand emotion…According to the lyrics; Tina would sing that the fact is love is only physical. And that there are no feelings of emotion to consider. Who you agree?
What's Love Got to Do with It" gave Turner her first and only US number one ... It was the second biggest single of 1984.
Fast forward to today, 2021, + as the song + I have both aged I'd like to rename the song “What’s Age Got to Do with It?”
Growing Older is inevitable while -
Aging + Accountability is Optional
My first accountability coach
When I was a young girl, my father saw an article in the local newspaper advertising makeup lessons for teenage girls. He pointed it out to my mother, the appointment was made, and the very next Saturday I found myself in the makeup chair at the Lancome counter.
I was shown various products, brushes, creams, and lotions; in addition to being taught the “how-to” of applying these products. After several hours of teaching and applying; I was makeup ready.
I whispered, “Alright, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close up”? Wow!! I was not ready, for a closeup of any kind; as revealed by the horrified look on my mother’s face when she returned for me. I did not look like her peaches & cream, fresh face, a teenager but rather an applicant for a career with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
My mother was my first accountability coach
NYC + the Big Apple
I began my career, as the Women’s Coat Buyer for Macy’s (back in the day it was called Lazarus -which was purchased by Macy’s). After graduating from college, with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, I landed my dream job. I had a corner office with an assistant.
I traveled to NYC monthly. I was wined & dined. I wore expensive clothes (which I bought on credit because I had no money- but had to “look the part”), I spent hours analyzing trends and forecasting sales. I was single.
Living life in the fast lane. Accountability coaches were my boss & the bank. My boss reviewing & checking my reports and the bank keeping me from ruining my credit score.
The BOSS as my accountability coach
Health Clubs + Tanning Beds
I met a man! It was love at first sight. I’m not kidding! We met one night and 6 months later we were engaged. The wedding would take place a year later.
What’s the first thing an engaged girl does, after showing off her ring?
You guessed it.
I started working out, of course! I hated it.
Every. Single. Torturous Minute.
I needed to lose 20 lbs at the time; to look good in the wedding dress, but the truth was; my man didn’t care. He loved me.
It was me! I didn’t love myself.
The wedding would be the beginning of the lies.
Lies to myself. I’m not thin enough. I’m not pretty enough. I’m not what he wants.
I don’t deserve him.
The endless yo-yo dieting, the gym memberships, and the tanning beds…because if you’re tan, you look thinner; right?
I had no accountability coach in my life - it was me against me + I failed miserably.
French Fries & Paris
Why is it the French can eat all the pommes frites, croissants, and jambon-beurre sandwiches, is beyond me?
Consider the Parisian woman walking confidently down the Champs-Elysees with a fresh baguette tucked neatly in her bag; most likely headed home to enjoy the warm, crusty bread with a thick smear of butter. Real butter!!
I can gain 5 lbs. just by looking at butter!
So, what’s a girl to do but cut out the carbs and fat. Let me tell you, eating chicken and vegetables gets old!! I lost the weight but was miserable.
I loved the way I looked and the way I felt in my clothes. Gone were the tight jeans and spare tire around my midsection. I gained compliments from friends and strangers. I still didn’t love me. I felt beat down and I was constantly hungry.
My accountability coach became the diet culture.
Empty Nest & Reinvention
As our children moved out of the house, college & career, I found myself feeling a loss. My purpose, for nearly two decades, had suddenly vanished. My daily routine. The Kids. The School. The Volunteering. The Sporting Events. The Friends.
All of it came to a screeching HALT!!
The phone didn’t ring; the invitations stopped. The family dinners dwindled to just the two of us. The house was quiet. Books were a temporary escape. Meals were created. The house was spotless.
What was missing? The love I showered on the boys was now just a shower for one. The loneliness and the void, in my life, was REAL. I didn’t realize it would be so severe. I had a choice to make. I could sit or I could stand. I chose to stand. I took a stand and faced myself.
I asked myself the tough questions: Why do you feel empty? Can you love yourself? What’s your purpose now? Who's going to hold me accountable to my goals?
In standing up to myself and asking the tough questions; I realized it was time for reinvention.
I had CHASED health & wellness for years; now it was time to CATCH them both!!
I got busy working on myself. I started the journey to health & wellness on the inside. My heart and mind.
I developed a morning routine that combines heart work with mind work (over the past 4 years, it has now become the best, most sacred part of my day).
After the internal changes began to take root, I took a look at my physical health & wellness and realized it needed some cleaning up, too!
I began by studying scientific research on aging, weight loss, longevity, and how to live a vibrant, energized life over 50 and beyond.
Could I, actually, lose weight happily? It wasn't until I shifted my mindset + surrounded myself to a community of experts in holistic health + wellness accountability that I lost the weight and found my joy again.
My accountability coaches are educators in nutrition + wellness
I have reinvented myself to align with my purpose. The purpose of helping others create healthy habits + thrive on a daily basis. For women, at any age to make their health a priority, one habit, one meal at a time.
The fact is: You can BE Fit and Fabulous AT ANY AGE.
The fact is; age is simply a number. You get the opportunity every single day to push past your physical age.
You get to feel however you choose. When reaching your goals despite your feelings become discouraging; that's the time to reach out - regardless of your age or situation - to choose accountability.
Accountability will accelerate your goals + spur you on to success.
Ask yourself: Is today the day I choose change? To get accountable?
It’s never too late to start again.
Choose YOU!
Choose Health. Choose your best life no matter your age; and get accountable.
Then you'll be singing, “What’s Age Got to Do with It”. Adding to the lyrics it's physical, it's logical + I'm accountable + that spurs me to success.
YOU ARE CAPABLE OF LIVING YOUR HEALTHIEST & HAPPIEST LIFE.
If you’re looking to create healthy habits to gain more energy, improve your sleep + shed a few pounds, you’ve landed in the right place.
